School of Primary Education – Faculty of Education

The School of Primary Education of the Faculty of Education of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki was founded in 1983 and opened doors in 1986. The School of Primary Education with the School of Early Childhood Education consists the Faculty of Education. In the School of Primary Education currently attend about 2,000 undergraduate students, 100 post-graduate and PhD students and 200 in-service teachers (at a special professional development course for in-service teachers). Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (AUTH)

Nowadays the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is considered to be the biggest university in Greece. It is located in the city centre and it expands over an area of around 430,000 square meters. On the whole, it consists of seven faculties which have a total of 33 departments. 98,000 undergraduate and post-graduate students are currently enrolled at AUTH: 90,000 attend under-graduate courses and 8,000 attend post-graduate courses (A and B cycle). Thessaloniki

Thessaloniki, having a population of 1,200,000 people,  is the second biggest city in Greece and a very important commercial civic centre of the Balkan area. It is build on the edge of the gulf of Thermaikos and from the city’s sea front one can see mount Olympus. Thessaloniki is more than 2,300 years old and is named after the sister of Alexander the Great. The city was founded by a general of Alexander named Kassandros in 316 BC.

 

 

The city has been an administrative and financial centre during the Roman and the Byzantine years. Nowadays, Thessaloniki is a modern cosmopolitan city of particular charm with distinct signs of its long eventful history. Thessaloniki is also a cultural centre (in 1996 was the Cultural Capital of Europe) with the Aristotle University, many important Museum and Galleries, theatres and vivid art life not to mention the International Film Festival, Photosynkyria (the international photography exhibition), the International Book Festival that take place annually.

 

 

Thessaloniki is also known as the Capital of Emigrants as most of the population of the city has always been multicultural. Therefore, tastes from different cultures have met in this city and created a colorful cuisine that Thessaloniki is very famous of.
